Random Dozen Again

Lidna at 2nd Cup of Coffee posts these questions each Wednesday. Thinking about them often prompts a self search for REAL truth. Or I can go with funny. It varies. Join us by copying the questions from here or her site and post them on your blog. Then link back to her.

1. On an average, how often do you splurge and buy something for yourself?
Solely, selfishly just for me? About once a month.

2. Are you more like Hall or Oates? Just kidding. Real question: What is the last creative project you began/finished? Feel free to post a pic of it.
Re-did the guest room. This is a big deal. I am completely decorationally challenged. It took me about 5 years to get the focus to do it. I'd attach a photo but one member of this family uses it as his get-away place and there's stuff all over the bed right now. See next question!

3. OK, Goldie Locks, do you consider your house too big, too little or juuuust right?
I think it is JUST RIGHT. There are only four of us; the house is a split level with 4 levels and 5 bedrooms so everyone has a place to go to be away but not too far away from others.

4. What is your favorite outdoor chore?
Does riding a bike count? Rats. Okay, I guess sweeping the front walk. It looks messy, I get it cleaned up, and I get to check something off the 'was I productive?" list.

5. If you knew that cigarette smoking was not bad for your health but would be a weight loss tool, would you use it? Why or why not?No. I've actually thought about this because someone I love has this monkey on his/her back and it is very difficult for the people around. I wondered, if the person could do this without any ill effects to self or others, would I still object? And the honest answer is that anything that controls a person chemically so easily becomes an idol and Scripture is clear about idols. So because I love this person, yeah, I think I'd object.

6. On a road trip, would you rather drive or ride? Ride. I fall asleep if I drive for too long. Plus, it's hard to fill in the crossword clues and keep both hands on the wheel.

7. What do you consider a trivial pursuit? Perfection.

8. This weekend, we downloaded the movie "Duplicity" with Julia Roberts and Clive Owen. Within 5 minutes, I was bored and annoyed, but I kept watching 5-10 minutes at a time hoping it would get better between small chores. I finally gave up and Jorge watched it alone, and then regretted wasting that time because he disliked it intensely, too. So ... how long do you watch a movie or read a book before giving up on it?
If the family REALLY wants me to watch it with them, I'll sit there for about half an hour. For a book, if it doesn't grab me by the end of the first chapter, it's history. Life is too short.

9. Is there a song that you really love but are embarrassed to admit because it's not cool or it's racy or because it's by Hall and Oates?
Yep, lots of them. But you didn't ask us to name what they are.

10. On a scale of 1-10 (10 = extremely) how spontaneous are you?About a 3. Not very.

11. Are you a food and/or beverage snob?
In the sense that I avoid fast food and prepackaged prepared food, yes. I like to cook and do so much home cooking that the pre-fab stuff just doesn't taste right.

12. Who/What are you trying to control in your life? (I hear people gulping and see them sweating in anticipation of how to answer this one.) Myself. Everything. Then I realize resistance is futile. God is in control and I'm a lot happier and more at peace when I recognize and appreciate that!

I like your #5 and #12 answers.

I don't like a lot of pre-packaged foods either. For instance, packaged cookies can never taste as good as homemade. I guess we've spoiled ourselves!
